Website University Department of Chemical Technology (UDCT)

The University Department of Chemical Technology (UDCT), established on October 1, 1933, was a department of the University of Bombay (now Mumbai) in India. Its primary objective was to advance knowledge in chemical science and technology within the country. Over time, UDCT evolved into a leading institution dedicated to education, training, research, and industrial collaboration in various fields such as chemical engineering, chemical technology, applied chemistry, pharmacy, biotechnology, and bio-processing.

In 1985, UDCT was granted partial autonomy by the University of Mumbai, marking a significant milestone in its growth. The concept of autonomy, promoted by the University Grants Commission (UGC), further elevated its status. Recognizing its size and diverse activities, UDCT was transformed into the University Institute of Chemical Technology (UICT) on January 26, 2002. Subsequently, in 2004, it obtained full autonomy under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP) supported by the World Bank.
